From 4 years ago, Edinburgh Military Tattoo... i preferred the old style tattoos when they were truly military oriented, but if this is the way the world is going That said, you can't take away the skill required https://youtu.be/HW3QVLlK-kE

You need to be careful about what is cool and what isn't when it comes to Edinburgh Hogmanay... if you're Scots and Edinburgh born then a good starting point is to avoid anything that involves the City Council... In the 70's and early 80's the City Council weren't involved in anything to do with New Year... the norm then was for house parties... and if you weren't of a mind to get into that then you went to the "Tron", a church at the top of the royal mile.... i never understood why so may people went there to "see in the bells" but it was an unofficial gathering point that everyone went to... there was no bus service home, no safe points if things went tits-up, no policing other than the beat cops who were rostered to be there on the night.... then the city council saw an opportunity to make a profit and the first "Hogmany Party" surfaced... what a cock-up that was, and still is... the first year saw hundreds of thousands attend on Princes Street, the resulting crush overwhelmed and hospitalised more cops than... suffice to say it's still a cock-up. There are now no longer house parties, Edinburgh residents no longer go into town, the Tron is a memory for anyone my age... for anyone younger they have no idea what I'm talking about. If you're a tourist you'll likely do something unsavoury to your underwear... another story for another day. That said, there are other times of the year that have recently changed... marches on the royal mile being one... prior to Scottish Devolution, that never happened... or VERY rarely happened.

Thanks for the links Doddie, I enjoyed watching them as it's always very invigoratingly special when you hear the pipes and drums playing.

Despite my other ranting's I'm glad you all enjoyed the links I just stumbled over this link for the "Top Secret Corps".... https://youtu.be/d0o9kvixL50What's remarkable about that is the location, it's in Parliament Square on the Royal Mile, they won't/can't have rehearsed there as rehearsals are not permitted on the Royal Mile during the Edinburgh Festival. Performers are permitted to ad hoc turn up and showcase their productions, but that's as far as it goes. They would have been permitted to rehearse what they displayed in the video within the grounds of the castle but the environment on the Royal Mile would be alien... note a drummer drops a drumstick circa 7:20 FYI, the building behind the drummers is the home of the Scottish Parliament prior to the Act of Union in 1707. The building to their right is The Tron church i mentioned in a previous post. As for unreal... this really must be unreal... if it isn't I'm amazed! https://youtu.be/FqJdzYY_Fas
