Looks like my Cleveland Indians are peaking at the right time. They are currently enjoying a 17-0 winning streak. They are now in 1st place in their division by 12 games with 20 games to go.

And the streak hits 22! Longest streak ever in the American League. Second longest streak ever.
4 to go to match the 1916 Giants all time record of 26 straight. Actually the Tribe's streak is tops as the Giants' streak involved a tie game which is not actually a win.
Tonight's 22nd straight win was 3-2 over Kansas City. During the current streak they have played Kansas City 4 times and have out scored them 23-2.

Oh well, 22 straight is awesome but all good things tend to come to an end. The Tribe lost tonight. Now it depends a bit on how they do in the next few games as something like what they have just done can promote a bit of a letdown. Almost playoff time! I want them sharp. A few notes... 1) The Tribe is averaging 10 strikouts per game for the entire season. No team has ever done this. Only a few individual pitchers have done this for a season. 2) Don't give them an early lead! Their record when leading after two innings is 51-7. 3) I SO much hope that it is the Tribe and Cubs in the World Series with the Tribe winning. It would just be SO cool for the two teams with the longest draught as to a World Series win to do it back to back playing each other both times.

I guess I didn't need to worry about a Tribe letdown with the streak ending. They beat KC 8-4 today.
An interesting thought from the Tribe's coach. He said that the streak was the best thing that could have happened going into the playoffs. His logic is that, with some new and young players, they have learned a bit about pressure situations. Actually makes a bit of sense.

chasbox wrote: Tito is a great manager LOL! Ya, I'd say that he has not done too bad. Actually the whole organization seems to be doing it right. I remember a time when they would have the best pitching staff but no hitting; they would lose 1-0. Then they would trade the good pitchers for hitters and lose 11-10. Personally I think that the current group is doing things really well.

If you don't notice above I edited my post. It isn't just Tito, it is the whole organization.

Absolutely! I remember a trade done in the 90's involving Cleveland and Atlanta. They traded Kenny Loftin(sp) to Atlanta for David Justice. Cleveland fans were irate as Loftin... or is it Lofton?... was possibly the best center fielder in baseball at the time. The thing was that he was in the last year of a contract. The following year Cleveland re-signed him as a free agent. Personally I think the entire thing was planned. If I'm right as to it being planned that is good front office stuff.

Man that guy could run! And Lofton also had a bit of punch with the bat. Anyway, time to go. I've enjoyed the back-to-back posts on this but the oven is heated for the fries and I need to slice things to go on the burger.

Another streak going. 13 straight road game wins. That is a franchise record. Amazing road team! Their home record is 45-30 which is not at all bad. Their road record at 50-27 is totally off the wall.

It actually gets better Chas. The clutch hitting is also unreal. Let's just take Edwin Encarnacion as an example. He has 37 home runs. 18 of them have either tied or won a game. They are 19 and 1 in September and have won 26 out of the last 27 games. The pitching staff has allowed four or fewer runs in 25 consecutive games. Lindor's 31 home runs are the most by a switch-hitting shortstop in major league history.

chasbox wrote: Better hope they aren't peaking to soon,Playoffs coming I hear that Chas and it is a concern to me. Although my main concern is that they cop an attitude where the World Series is automatic and look ahead instead of focusing on the Divisional and Conference series. Somehow though I just can't see Tito allowing that to happen. Oh, in my last post I was wrong on one point. The Tribe gave up 5 runs to the Halos in a 6-5 win last night so the streak of their pitching giving up 4 or fewer runs is over. I will say that I've been enjoying watching the games. MLB has a package for streaming all games. They also have a cheaper package to stream all games for just one team. At about 2/3 of the way through the 22 game streak I saw that it would only cost me $8.00 for the rest of the season so I did it. I just MAY sign up for next years season for just the Tribe. It would cost me $87.00 for the season versus $129.00 for all teams. The streaming quality is excellent and I may do it. Boils down to ~54 cents per game. That is not a bad deal.
