OK, so I like when strange things happen... Sherman, set the Way Back Machine to 1959...

In 1959 the White Sox played the Dodgers in the World Series. The National League Dodgers beat the American League Sox. In 1960 both the Dodgers and Sox won their season home opener on a 'walk off' hit. A walk off hit win means that the hit ended the game and the inning did not need to be finished. This is the only time this has ever happened. LOL! Please keep in mind that baseball is a game of statistics...

OK Sherman, set the Way Back Machine to 2016. The Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs play in the World Series. The National League Cubs win the series. On home opening day both the Cubs and Indians win the game on walk off hits. In the history of Major League Baseball this is now the second time this has happened. OK, no big deal as, sooner or later, it was bound to happen again.

How about this? The Tribe and Cubs beat the Sox and Dodgers to repeat the occurrence. Now THAT is weird!

A walk off win is when the inning does not even have to be finished. Take a tied game in the bottom of the 9th inning where the home team batter hits a home run. Game over, no need to finish the inning. That is a walk off.

In 1960 both the Dodgers and Sox won their home opening game of the season with walk off hits after playing each other in the 1959 World Series. In 2017 The Cubs and Indians both won their home openers with walk off hits after playing the 2016 World series. These are the only two times that both World Series teams from the previous year have won their home opener with a walk off so you can see that it is not a normal occurrence.

What actually makes it a bit weird is that the Indians and Cubs beat the Sox and Dodgers. This means that the Sox and Dodgers have been involved in every instance.

It is just an odd bit of trivia/statistics. But then there is no sport that is more involved in stats and trivia as baseball.
